Employment

Statistics on average number of persons in formal employment and average monthly earnings (gross) are compiled quarterly by industry and sector.

Industry classification: UN International Standard Industrial Classification (ISIC) Rev 4

Sector classification: Private, Parastatal, Government

Source data:

  • Private sector – As from July 2010 when the personal income tax was introduced through the Income and Non-Monetary Benefits Tax Act, data for the private sector has been sourced from the Seychelles Revenue Commission (SRC).
  • Parastatal sector – Data is obtained from the payroll system and also directly from parastatal organisations.
  • Government sector – Mostly obtained from government payroll maintained by the Treasury Department in the Ministry of Finance.

As from 2006, employment and earnings data for the government and parastatal sectors are published disaggregated by gender (males & females) and by local versus expatriate.

There is an ongoing consultation with the administrative source data provider to obtain disaggregation (by gender and local versus expatriate) for the private sector.
