The National Bureau of Statistics is seeking to recruit for the following positions:

Statistician: (2 posts)

Main Duties and responsibilities:

  • Design data collection schedules and prepare methodology/documentation to be used in the conducting of surveys
  • Update databases and thoroughly check the output results regularly for correctness, completeness and

integrity of data

  • Do data analysis and compile statistical aggregates ensuring compliance with internationally recommended methodology, standards and classifications
  • Write statistical reports and prepare documentation as required
  • Manage and train lower level staff
  • Management and coordination of primary data collection exercises
  • Tools development and documentation
  • Compilation of statistical reports from various analyses
  • Providing assistance and advice on research work
  • Technical representation of the Bureau on committees and at meetings


Specific requirements:

  • Degree in Statistics, Economics or Mathematics or related Social Sciences OR 2-years’ satisfactory work experience as Assistant Statistician
  • Good report writing and communication skills
  • Knowledge of the MS Office Software package as well as statistical software packages for statistical analysis
  • Good computing skills


Other Requirements:

  • Prior work experience in a related field is a plus and will be considered



The salary entry point is set at SB3-SB5 plus relevant allowances as per the Scheme of Service.


Senior Statistical Assistant: (2 posts)

Main Duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist with and supervise data collection through administration of questionnaires and schedules from households, establishments and administrative records.
  • Check questionnaires and schedules from the field for inconsistencies and errors and have these rectified where necessary.
  • Supervise and assist with data coding, entry and editing.
  • Coordinate field work of Statistical Assistants under supervision of senior officer.
  • Assist with preliminary data analysis in the preparation of Statistical reports.
  • Assist in providing the general public and other users with information from
  • Conduct any other relevant duties as assigned by the Supervisor


Specific requirements:

  • ‘A’ level certificate in Mathematics and English with or a relevant Advanced Certificate
  • Minimum of 2 years satisfactory work experience as a Statistical Assistant.
  • Competence in the use of the MS Office Software package, particularly the use of Excel spreadsheets and Word.
  • Proficiency in English and good report writing and communication skills.



The salary entry point is set at SB1 plus relevant allowances as per the Scheme of Service.
