The National Bureau of Statistics is seeking to recruit persons to fill the following positions:
Statistician: (2 posts)
Main Duties and responsibilities:
- Design data collection schedules and prepare methodology/documentation to be used in the conducting of surveys
- Update databases and thoroughly check the output results regularly for correctness, completeness and integrity of data
- Do data analysis and compile statistical aggregates ensuring compliance with internationally recommended methodology, standards and classifications
- Write statistical reports and prepare documentation as required
- Manage and train lower level staff
- Management and coordination of primary data collection exercises
- Tools development and documentation
- Compilation of statistical reports from various analyses
- Providing assistance and advice on research work
- Technical representation of the Bureau on committees and at meetings
Entry requirements:
- Graduate degree (major / minor combination) in either Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related social science, or at least an undergraduate qualification and two years’ work experience.
- Good analytical and problem-solving skills
- Good IT skills and a good knowledge of the MS Office package, and in particular Advance MS Excel skills (An in-depth knowledge in the use of statistical software packages for statistical analysis is desirable)
- Good communication and report writing skills
- Proficiency in English - a good command of the language (written and oral)
Salary:
The salary entry point is set at SB6 – SB7 plus relevant allowances.
Assistant Statistician: (1 post)
Main Duties and responsibilities:
- Assist with supervision and training of staff for price data collection
- Do consistency checks on data quality and coverage to detect for errors and incompleteness
- Closely monitor, control and validate quality of data from field and other sources
- Supervise and assist with data processing and editing
- Assist with data analysis
- Assist with the compilation of statistical bulletins and other reports for publication according to prescribed and recommended international standards and classifications
- Assist with the documentation of processes for statistical compilations
- Provide the general public and other users with information published by the Bureau
Entry requirements:
- Advanced Diploma in either Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related social science plus at least 1 year relevant work experience
OR
- Diploma in either Statistics, Mathematics, Economics or related social science plus at least 2 years work experience
- Competence in the use of MS Office Software package, and in particular Excel and Word
- Proficiency in English and good report writing and communication skills
- Knowledge of the CPI compilation processes
- Knowledge of the COICOP and economic classifications and other standards is a plus
Salary:
The salary entry point is set at SB4 – SB5 plus relevant allowances.
