Census / Survey
This unit is responsible for the execution of the Population and Housing Censuses and other household-based surveys.
The last Population & Housing Census was carried out in August 2010 and the report and other statistical results will be published shortly.
Another important household-based data collection exercise is the Household Budget Survey. The last survey was carried out over the period May 2006/July 2007. Preparations for a new Household Budget Survey are underway and data collection is expected to start in 2013. From such surveys, the spending patterns of households are established and the basket for measuring monthly price changes is drawn.
The Labour Force Survey (LFS) serves to take stock of employment, underemployment and unemployment in the country and also provides other labour market information such as changing trends in the demand for labour, as well as socio-economic characteristics of the labour force. The most recent Labour Force Survey was undertaken in 2011. Data analysis of the last survey is currently underway and the results will be available before the end of 2012.
Other regular exercises include the continuous updating of geographical maps that are used to update sampling frames for inter-censal surveys.
The Unit also participated in the General Data Dissemination Systems (GDDS) projects run in collaboration with the World Bank and the Department for International Development. The module that was developed is a system for Justice & Security Statistics.
