The National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) undertook a survey on food insecurity for the first time in 2016. The survey is an application of the FAO’s Food Insecurity Experience Scale (FIES) that uses an experience-based metric to measure the severity of food insecurity. The survey was administered to some 1200 households during the second quarter of 2016.
In July 2010, the legal framework of the Bureau was recast and modernized and the National Statistics Bureau Act, 2005, was repealed to be replaced by the National Bureau of Statistics Act, 2010. The institution is now the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) and is headed by a Chief Executive Officer.
